Parvathi reaches Thiruvannamalai

Om SathGuru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

On her arrival, the Goddess saw Siddhas, Yogis, Rishis, and the Devas dwelling there. The Devas said:

“Attri, Bhrigu, Bharathwaja, Kasyapa, Angirasa, Kutsa, and Gautama” (the Saptha-rishis – the 7 sages) perform severe penances along with Siddhas and the Devas here for the fulfillment of their wishes. This is the Divine Linga known as ARUNADRI.”

The Maharishis prayed to HER to be their guest, but she expressed HER desire to see Gautama first, as per Shiva’s command. So they directed HER to Gautama’s ashram.

When Gautama saw The Mother of the Universe bowing to him, he restrained HER from doing so, and himself bowed to HER and said, “Gowri welcome. Auspicious Mother of Universe. It is impossible for anyone to comprehend or describe fully your maya.” After completing the worship he took a seat at the bidding of the Goddess.

With devotion, Sage Gautama addressed the Goddess: HE who loves HIS devotees has sent you here with the object of protecting them. Parvathi be so gracious as to command me, your servant, as to what I can do for you.

Ambika (Parvathi) praised sage Gautama and said, “MY Lord told ME that HE abides here as ARUNACHALA (Annamalai), and directed ME to learn its Greatness from you. I look upon you as MY father for you are the personification of Wisdom. Therefore, pray, kindly enlighten ME on the greatness of Arunachala.”

Sage Gautama meditated upon the Lord for sometime and addressed the Goddess, “Gowri, you are the embodiment of universal knowledge and represent Shiva’s divine illusion as maya. You love to hear from the lips of devotees about the greatness of your Lord!
